Sea Lions on buoy in Prince William Sound - Alan SorumAlan Sorum and his wife Ruth Knight are residents of the City of Valdez, in spectacular Prince William Sound. Along with their daughter Elise, the family has enjoyed living and working on the Alaskan waterfront for nearly 20 years.

Sorum is the immediate past Manager of the Municipality of Skagway and former Port Director and Harbormaster of Valdez, Alaska where he worked for eight years. Alan and his family previously lived on Wrangell Island for many years.

Sorum is an alumnus of the University of Alaska Southeast and Fairbanks with advanced degrees in public management and rural development. Currently he is an adjunct facility member with the University of Alaska Southeast. Alan writes professionally for a number of venues. He has made a number of professional presentations in rural development and marine safety.

Alaska is a truly Great Land and its diverse regions would easily form a number separate state or provinces. Alan travels extensively throughout the State for business and pleasure, and shares his knowledge of the land here at IAA.

This on-line magazine delivers focused articles and news on things unique to Alaska. Articles will be on the towns, sights, rivers, wildlife and adventures found in the Great Land. Articles will be about places that have been personally experienced by the writer here in Alaska.
