Bikes Along the Richardson Highway - Photo by MotoQuestButler Motorcycle Maps has released their Great Rides of Alaska motorcycle map. The Butler Alaska motorcycle map highlights the paved and dirt roads suitable for use by motorcyclists visiting the Great Land. It provides tips on the best places to eat, rest and explore in Alaska.

This map reflects the field research taken by MotoQuest and Butler Motorcycle Maps on roads described in the publication to ensure its accuracy. MotoQuest is a company that provides motorcycle rentals and tours out of Anchorage, Alaska.

In a press release, Justin Bradshaw of Butler Maps says, “Nobody has more knowledge about roads in Alaska than MotoQuest. We are extremely excited to collaborate with them on this map. The finished product is one of the best maps we have ever made and it’s an invaluable resource for motorcyclists traveling in Alaska.”

The front of the map displays an overall view of the entire state. Along with details for Alaska, the map shows the roads available in Western Canada and the northern end of the Southeast Alaska panhandle. It features outlines that key to inset maps found on the back half of the publication. The front of the map also includes an inset map showing the highway system running from Seattle, Washington into the Yukon Territory.

Cover of Butler Alaska Motorcycle MapOn the map’s second side, there are a number of insets that include cartographic data, travel tips fueling locations and focused highway maps.  The map measures approximately 26 by 38 inches in size and is printed on heavy waterproof, tear resistant paper. It folds into an easy to store size of 4.25 by 9 inches. Butler classifies roads with a gold, red and orange color scheme to highlight the best rides in Alaska, making trip planning easier on the road. QR Codes are printed on the map allowing smart phone users access to additional information and videos for the areas noted.

Insets provided on the second side of the map include these details:

  • Glenn, Parks, Denali, Richardson and Alaska Highways
  • Elliot and Steese Highways
  • Kenai Peninsula
  • Dalton Highway
  • Cartographic data
  • Where to eat, sleep and drink
  • Travel information

While Butler Maps has geared this map of Alaska to motorcyclists, its format and the ready information provided are well suited for other visitors using the road system in the north. There is no reason why bicyclists, motorists and recreational vehicle operators should not use it. This map represents a compact and detailed navigational resource that doesn’t need batteries to operate.

The Butler Motorcycle Map of Alaska (ISBN 978-0-9832701-4-0) sells for a suggested $14.95. A quick search of the Amazon.com and Barnes & Nobel websites show other Butler Motorcycle Maps, but don’t yet list the Alaska map. The map can be purchased from the publisher directly:
